V roce 1943 dokončuje 700 botanických kreseb, za které získává v Londýně Grenfellovu zlatou medaili.V roce 1944 se opět rozvádí a bere si George Adamsona. V roce 1960 vychzí kniha Příběh lvice Elsy ( vypráví o životě Joy a lvice Elsy ). Kniha se stává bestsellerem a je přeložena do 25 jazyků. Celkem se na celém světě prodalo 15 milionů výtisků všech jejich knih, Založila nadaci Elsa Wild Animal Appeal , která existuje dodnes . Joy založila národních parků Hell´s Gate, Meru, Samburu , které jsou dodnes rezervacemi pro záchranu zvěře .
V 1980 Joy Adamson je v keňské rezervaci Shaba brutálně zavražděna svým bývalým sluhou, kterého dříve propustila za krádež . Za deset let je podobně zavražděn i její manžel pitláky , proti kterým bojoval .
